You are the mind or rather, to be more apt, you are identifying as the mind which of course is not your true and eternal Self, however this is your lived experience to date.
You identify as the conscious mind creating thought and the awareness of subconscious mind watching these thoughts. This is how you are self-aware. You are aware subconsciously of the self aka conscious mind. Which is the vessel for the true Self as Spirit.
It is necessary to bring both minds together as ONE Thought in meditation if we are ever going to realize the fullness of our Being. One must bring the I of the conscious mind together with the am of the subconscious mind, so it does not seem like you are two people abiding within you.
Now this is going to be scary to begin with because when the two minds come together as one (though present mind awareness) you will feel like you are going to cease to exist - you will have it seems ‘no self – awareness’, however it will only seem like that for a short time. The longer you hold a meditative the mind the deeper you go within yourself consciously. It will only be a matter of time before you realize yourself as the true Self living through the mind aka false self.
When the two minds, the conscious and the subconscious come together as one, they are completely present - not IN the moment but the PRESENCE of the moment. In this state of beingness – the mind is ready to merge with and realize the true Self.
There should be no separation between you and the moment, between the conscious and subconscious mind.
One minute you are living life the next minute life is living you. There is a definite shift in consciousness when one’s beingness is fully realized. The sense of oneness - this sense of completeness (that is first felt as a deep and bottomless emptiness) deepens ever deeper into the well of yourself until you are completely lost in the true Self that can be in the world but not of it.
It is only when the vessel is whole that the whole of life – the true Self, can come flooding in, allowing you to drown you in its love and wonder.
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others" - Mahatma Gandhi & "There are no others" - Sri Ramana Maharshi
These two beautiful Souls between them are pointing at one truth. The Present moment IS you - your true Self. When you lose yourself in it as thought - as the mind, you find yourself as your true Consciousness - Spiritual Consciousness. So, one must die to the mind (flesh) and be born again of Spirit.
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water (subconscious/Soul/Present moment) and the Spirit. - John 3:5
Therefore, if you are to be liberated from the mind and born again of Spirit, you have to keep the conscious mind (I) still in the am of the subconscious mind which is always present in the moment. This way the conscious mind cannot rise in thought (Maya) outside out the reality of NOW and distract the awareness of your subconscious mind - compelling it to reproduce for you the egoic conscious mind. The subconscious mind should be serving Spirit only and it can only do that when the conscious mind sits in the subconscious and waits to merge with its true Consciousness that comes to it through the soul, then the subconscious, then the conscious mind. This is how the vessel (mind consciousness) becomes filled with the light or the holy spirit (intuition) of our true Consciousness.
