The Mind is a lens for Spirit (I) being Soul (Am) Aka true Self. If it is full of itself, one cannot see clearly and will imagine themselves to be the mind and body, thereby limiting their demonstrations and manifestations in the physical.

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." - 1 Corinthians 13:12

You are the Unmanifest Awareness (Soul) behind the Manifestation of mind - behind the thoughts and feelings generated by the mind. When thought ceases and emotion calms through meditation and/or mindfulness you as the I of mind become Conscious of thy Self as this Awareness. Following this realization, you as the I of mind become conscious of Thy Self as the I of Spirit through the Am of Soul/Subconscious.

Before this point, all you were conscious of were your thoughts and feelings that held your attention spell bound. So much so you imagined they were you.

Cease taking thought, cease being lost in thoughts and emotions and keep the mind still so that the mind clears allowing your perception to see reality as it is rather than as you are being mind ignorant of its true Self.
