The purpose for doing this is so you can become conscious of yourself as Awareness Aka Soul. By realizing I am not this (feeling) and I am not that (thought) etc, one starts to become conscious of what they are which is Soul Aka Awareness.

Thoughts, feelings and their manifestations distract our consciousness as Mind (attention) from the Awareness behind thoughts, feelings and objects etc. When they cease through meditation we realize the true Self.

"Being is felt, it is not thought" - Eckhart Tolle.

Therefore, do not just be in the moment - feel it - love it if you can.
